forever twenty-- wait what?

so this morning my roommate and I were sitting on the couch watching tv/doing homework and she spotted a knock off of a sweater she bought last year on forever21.com so i decided to go and browse to see if i could find any of my clothes knocked off.  instead of finding knock offs, to my surprise i actually found some really cute pieces that i know i will be adding to my closet while i'm home over my break!

seriously all these things are so chic and definitely transitional basics.  i'm dying over that white coat // its killer!

xx, happy shopping!

back in the day

in savannah, thursdays are fridays -- meaning that my weekend starts on thursday afternoons at 1:30 pm -- which is probably one of the most lovely things in the world.  last thursday me and my best friend decided to spend our first couple hours of our weekend last weekend at our favorite bakery in savannah {back in the day bakery} and walking around our neighborhood collecting sticks to decorate our apartment!  it was seriously the most lovely afternoon, i encourage everyone to have afternoons like this!

my recommendation at back in the day: miss hannah cookies, honey lavender iced coffee-- no milk, iced chai, the pink lady cupcake, savory ham & cheese breakfast danish

what i'm wearing: slip & dress - free people // boots - american eagle // glasses - rayban

collection crush / zara studio

I've selected a few of my favorite looks from the zara studio collection because its literally perfection.  right now i'm really into simple, constructed fashion.  its not necessarily what i'm wearing since i'm a poor college student and haven't boughten anything new since this summer, but if i had the fund i can promise you i'd probably have all these looks in my closet!  im actually going crazy over that black mini skit and blush coat. check out the rest of the looks by clicking here.

my zara obsession is getting stronger and stronger by the day....

viva españa // spain video

instead of going crazy and taking lots of pictures on my most recent trip to Spain I decided to make videos with my iPhone since last year I did the whole photo thing.  also lugging a huge camera around kind of sucks when you have a lot of different things to do in one day.... who really wants to bring their fancy camera into a discoteca? not me!

this video documents my time in madrid, barcelona and avila and features two songs that were basically the theme songs of my trip!

enjoy!

part 2 of sights coming soon!

art school // year 2

my second year at SCAD has started faster than you can say just about anything... to think that this time last week i was still in madrid blows my mind and is kind of sad but really thrilling at the same time.  even though i've been in savannah for five days now, i can still feel the jet lag (especially when my body just wakes up at 7am everyday even though i don't have class untill 11).  once i'm settled into my new house and i've gotten into the mojo of being a student again, i will update all y'all about my life, fashion and a whole lot more.  i'm super excited about this year and i can already tell its going to be great.  with that i leave you with this quote from jennifer schaffer

Forgive. Forget. Fake it. Chin up. Wear lipstick, make lists, make sure your voicemail isn’t full. Mix protein shakes, send timely thank you notes, sip drinks more slowly, stare at adults’ eyebrows, smile without dimples, develop perfect posture. Be gracious, be kind, eliminate self-pity. Look in the mirror and shift your internal monologue from ‘How do I look?’ to ‘This is my face,’ from ‘What the hell am I doing?’ to ‘This is my life.’ Capitalize your emails, read the news, walk briskly, stay focused, and never, ever let on that you are somewhat lost and sometimes lonely and so completely confused (and would someone please just let me know what it is I’m supposed to do next, where exactly I’m supposed to go–). Just keep going. Go, and do not stop.

pre-Spain

Hi lovies, I hope you are all having a splendid start to September.  I'm in Madrid right now on vacation so I haven't been able to have access to my computer, but since I'm currently having a low-key day lounging around in workout wear (yeah, I'm in desperate need of a workout so I'm wearing my running clothes to fulfill my desire to exercise) I am able to do write a quick little post for you about one of my favorite looks that I wore my last week home in LA.  Obviously I wore my spanish espadrilles everyday to prepare for Spain!

This is really making me miss home and I can't wait to get back there in a few months!

My look: Dress - Thrifted, Bra - Free People, Belt - Nordstrom, Espadrilles - Madrid street market, Jewelry - Paris street market, Grandma, Brandy Melville, Alex & Ani, jewelry store in Toledo, Spain, and Anthropologie

LA/Madrid Summer 2012 OOTD recap

So its no surprise that last summer I went to Spain to visit Paula... its basically all I ever talk about because it was literally the best time of my entire life.  First Pau came to visit me in LA for about two weeks then we flew back to Madrid for about three weeks... I cannot stress how amazing of a time I had... Anyhow, I just wanted to recap some of my favorite OOTDs that we did almost everyday from our summer!

Above is from the day we had a super tribal print day.  I'm not 100% sure what came over us, but I'm pretty sure it was inspired by my newly purchased fanny-pack!  They were the perfect outfits for exploring Segovia and the palace grounds! My look: Tank- Bershka, Shorts- Levi's, Shoes- Vans c/o Pau, Cardigan- Free People, Sunnies- Zara, Fanny Pack- Hippies de Goya street market

Me and Pau took a little weekend (plus a few days) excursion to Barcelona to visit my friend Gemma and her family.  Of course, like any American girl raised in the 2000s, I was obsessed with the Cheetah Girls so we walked all of Las Ramblas!  My look: Dress- Free People, Tank- Brandy Melville, Bag- Coach, Shoes- ???

This is from when Paula was visiting my family in LA.  Obviously we went to Disneyland!  We definitely embraced some sportiness in spite of the ridiculous heat in OC!  (I totally stole that hat from my friend Arno who was there with us... Still wish I kept it!) My look: Tank- Brandy Melville, Shorts- Lucky Brand, Shoes- Urban Outfitters, Sunnies- Clothing Warehouse, Bag- DKNY, Hat- Arno's!

These outfits are from the first day I saw Pau in LA.... I had just come back from working at a camp and we were at a goodbye picnic for my family's foreign exchange students!  This was like the funnest day ever!  My look: Hat- traditional Austrian hat c/o Arno from Austria, Dress- Free People, Bag- handmade by my G-Grandma, Shoes- ???

My first night out on the town in Madrid!!! We illegally drank in the streets and went to my first night club!  Seriously such a great experience!  Viva Sangria! My look: Dress- ???, Necklace- BP Nordstrom, Shoes- Forever 21

hump day // stoked

And kid, you’ve got to love yourself. You’ve got wake up at four in the morning, brew black coffee, and stare at the birds drowning in the darkness of the dawn. You’ve got to sit next to the man at the train station who’s reading your favorite book and start a conversation. You’ve got to come home after a bad day and burn your skin from a shower. Then you’ve got to wash all your sheets until they smell of lemon detergent you bought for four dollars at the local grocery store. You’ve got to stop taking everything so goddam personally. You are not the moon kissing the black sky. You’ve got to compliment someones crooked brows at an art fair and tell them that their eyes remind you of green swimming pools in mid July. You’ve got to stop letting yourself get upset about things that won’t matter in two years. Sleep in on Saturday mornings and wake yourself up early on Sunday. You’ve got to stop worrying about what you’re going to tell her when she finds out. You’ve got to stop over thinking why he stopped caring about you over six months ago. You’ve got to stop asking everyone for their opinions. Fuck it. Love yourself, kiddo. You’ve got to love yourself.

fashion goddess

If you haven't been totally dying over Vanessa Hudgen's style lately then we have to talk because she has literally been perfection!  Her all white bohemian but still super chic and modern style has me drooling!  If I was to raid anyone's closet right now it would definitely be hers!  I mean, look at that last look.... its perfect!

Who is your style icon right now?  I'd love to know so I can be inspired!

summer // fall inspiration

With Fall just around the corner, I've been thinking a lot about the always-awkward transition from one season to another... Especially when it comes to style and all that jazz.  I've selected some photos from my tumblr-- aka my online mood board-- that kind of sum up what I want my style to be like when Fall comes around and the transitional period into it!

Right now I am really, really obsessing over the color white.  The color itself is so pure and simple, and that is something I want to radiate.  From a white dress to a touch of white in my accessories, this is definitely a Summer trend I will be transitioning into Fall.

Again, with color palate, pastel earth-tones are my favorite right now.  Faint pinks and other colors from flowers... beiges and creams... Basically anything light and airy that could be found in nature!  Also, knitwear.... I think that this fall, I will definitely be including a lot more statement knitwear into my style... I just need to find the right pieces!  (Any suggestions?)

Finally, for the coming school year I want to give off a childlike essence of easiness with my style.  I want it to be playful but very simple.  I love the idea of flowy and oversized dresses that are fun to spin in.  There is so much whimsy in it.

Travel Outfit #1 by legitfashion featuring gold rings

In these looks, I utilized five basic yet fun pieces to create five looks for my trip to spain.  Of course, these are all just inspiration since I don't own all of these pieces, but they are definitely looks I will be replicating during my trip.  As you can tell I am loving the color white as well as neons... and who doesn't love a cute pineapple print!  Pieces on my shopping list for both my trip and the school year include the pineapple skirt from J. Crew (here),  the white sandals from Zara (here) and the white silk cami from H&M (here).

Also, I am obsessed with Forever 21 sunnies because they're basically disposable so it doesn't matter if they break and they're a really great way to add from trend pieces in my looks since I'm keeping my other pieces pretty basic.

Lots of love, happy traveling everyone!

hopeless wanderer

To cut to the point, I am a hopeless wanderer and always and I mean always have the urge to get up and travel the world.  Last summer I had the most amazing opportunity to travel to Spain as my big hurrah after my high school graduation.  Its an understatement to say that it was the best experience of my life.  (Side note: Every summer for the past five years, my family has hosted foreign exchange students and I have been fortunate enough to become best friends with some students I have meet through the program.)  Paula, a girl we hosted from Spain, along with her older sister Eli and their parents, have become some of my favorite people in the world and I am so fortunate to call them my Spanish family.  Living with them for the summer, I grew to love the Spanish lifestyle, cities and people.  With Paula by my side, I was able to explore Madrid, Barcelona, Las Cerdanyas, Toledo and Segovia, Spain.  For the past year that I have been back in the states, my soul has been constantly aching to go back to what I consider my favorite place in the world... and luckily I will be going back this summer!

summertime sadness

Dress - Nordstrom Rack // Hat - American Eagle Outfitters // Shoes (not shown) - Terra Cotta

I think the most important thing right now is that you all know that I wasn't actually sad when I took this picture even though it looks like I'm about to shed a tear or two.  For some reason over the years I've realized the lack of control I have in my face muscles... Baaaasically that means I never really know exactly what my straight face looks like... Whooops!  Anyways, this picture of my false sadness is actually kind of relevant because for the past two weeks I've had Lana Del Rey's song Summertime Sadness stuck in my head.... and its Summertime and I look really sad in this picture.  It definitely wasn't intentional, but I think my current obsession with the song inspired this all black look.  Below is my favorite version of the song...

meet katie

So since I've moved to school, I've met a lot of awesome people who are doing great and creative things with their lives.  Like me, a bunch of them have blogs and are trying to get their names out there in the world and as a fashion marketing student I know networking is a big part of being in this or any art industry.  In light of that, I wanted to share with you a friend of mine from school that I simply adore!  I asked her a few questions so we could all get to know her a little, soooo meet Katie!

a letter to my readers

Hello to all of my lovely readers out there in the world!  I am so excited that you are here, right now, reading my blog.  If you've been reading since day one (way back in 2009) when it was me and Katie in our awkward stages of Freshman year of high school or if you randomly found my blog today, I am so glad that you have stumbled upon my site and are interested in what I have to say.  As you know, over these past four years, Legit Fashion has gone through just about everything from starting as two girls working together to just being me.  I have had so many ideas about how I want this blog to look like and how I want it to feel, but as you all should know my now by simply reading one post of mine... I am so busy and literally never post regularly.  From the bottom of my heart, I just wanted to say thank you for sticking through with me and staying loyal.

As you can tell by my last two posts, I had this great idea of organizing my blog in a certain fashion but since I've posted them I had an epiphany.  Now, when I tell you, you're probably going to roll your eyes and think "no duh, Car" but here it goes... After much though and business, I have realized that my blog does not have to be organized or only have certain types of posts, or follow any style of any other blogger out there in the big, bad blogging world.  From now on, my posts are just going to be what they are.  Anything from what I wore out one night, what I made for dinner or a weekend away with friends... this blog is going to document my life like any blog should.  Of course, with a focus on fashion!

Finally, I have another think I would like to talk about.  Legit Fashion.  This good ol' name has been with me since 2009 when me and Katie would do photo shoots in our favorite outfits everyday after school.... since then a lot has changed (like I've probably said 5 million times!) and even though I have already tried to change the name of the blog once, I am doing it again.  Before LIFEstyled seemed way to forced to me, but this new name I have come up with is exactly what I want it to be.  So after many years of being a great companion to me, and something people know to be apart of me... its time to say good-bye to Legit Fashion and hello to LAV.

LAV?  Okay, now you're like, "this girl is crazy, what is she doing....??" Let me explain... LAV is the combination for Los Angeles and Savannah.  Since I consider both my home and I spend my time there almost equally throughout the year, the name fits perfectly.  LAV will not only continue to document my love for fashion and styled living, but like I mentioned before, it will simply document me.... exactly what a blog should do.

So please, continue to join me as I share with you my life... in both Los Angeles and Savannah.  I love you all to the moon and back... I wouldn't be where I am today without any of you!

Lots of love,
Caroline

renovation // 1

So y'all, yet another trial run posts about the new look around here!  I'd still love to hear what you think so feel free to leave a comment below.  These posts called "renovation" are all about my inspiration for my room at my parent's house in LA and my house in Savannah.  From photos of rooms that I feel totally inspired by, to individual piece of furniture or accessories, this little category is all about my ideal living space.  Eventually I will include photographs of my actual rooms but you'll just have to wait!

If you can't tell from my Pinterest, I am seriously more than "quite obsessed" with living spaces right now.  Maybe it's because I'm in the process of moving into a new place or maybe I'm just a little weird, but I have been feeling so inspired by home decorating.  Like, it is actually a little weird.... But anyways right now, just like my style tastes, I am loving white.  Anything and everything white with lots of pops of vibrant colors... pinks, turquoise, yellow, orangey red, black...

In addition to white + pops of color, I've been really drawn to industrial, wire chairs and accessories.  I'm not sure why, but every wire chair I see-- I want!  I think they are so fun and different but totally versatile, that like I need one!  I also love them because in like five years when I'm tired of a certain color or are in the process of redecorating, it will really easy to spray paint the chair the new color since the actual chair structure is versatile (like I already said!)

Even though the chairs already kind of fall into this category, I'm also really obsessed with eclectic decor.  I'm loving the look everything-goes-but-like-it-doesn't.  Am I making sense?  I'm the kind of person who goes to the store and likes certain pieces individually and creates my own look out of all the individual pieces.  Since I am, in fact, the same person every time I get new things, they all kind of go to together, but each is a little different.  Like in the picture on the right, above, there are cute little antique glass vases but then there is like a super cool, vibrate rug.  True the rug gives off the antique vibe, but I could totally see it in a modern home as well.

I hope you're liking my new way to doing the blog.  Seriously, I'd love to hear feedback-- facebook, twitter, comments-- I really love hearing from y'all.

Happy Tuesday!

trend love // 1

So I'm trying out something new and utilizing my knowledge of photoshop... changing up the layout of my post a little bit and starting up a new idea.  Instead of posting just whatever I was all the time, I am going to try to divide my posts into categories so everything is a little more organized (and its a little bit easier for me!)  To start this whole new thing off, today I am introducing Trend Love.  This category, for lack of a better word, will feature three trends that I am loving at the moment.  I will posting this category about once a month and will include clothing, accessory, hair, nail and other beauty trends that I am loving at the moment.  Let's see how this goes.... !!!

Since I've been on the hunt for a summer job, I've been in every local retail store imaginable!  One thing that I noticed when I would browse around these shops before giving in my resume, my eye is almost instantly drawn to anything with a bohemian embroidery.... preferably neon pink or orange.  Normally, I'm not the kind of gal that jumps on the embroidered peasant look since I've always thought it was a little to cliché, but now that I've dropped my pride about it... I'm obsessed!

Pants for summer is always a little tricky.  You have to wear them to work because the office is freezing (mine is freezing as I type this!) or you just want to wear them because if you're a Californian like me, you know that the temperature can change really fast the later it gets in the day.  If you're talking to me, jeans are out of the question... I am not a fan.  For summer though, I am really loving comfy statement pants that either remind me of the Hammer Time music video or have a really great all over pattern or embellishment.  I think that because of their "comfy" façade, this style of pants is literally the best for summer.

Though I haven't tried a look like this for myself, I have been quite obsessed with tops and bottoms that match.  First I loved the whole white-on-white look that became super popular this past year, but now I'm just loving the whole same-on-same idea for any color or pattern.  I think for summer, having the matching top and bottom adds an unexpected and fashion forward twist to the typical shorts and top look.  I'm definitely going to be trying it out!

Well I hope y'all liked this whole new look/idea thing I'm going to be trying out.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments below both about the new idea and the three trends!
